Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
