An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia is being halted following the death of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned several hours later after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

An extensive search operation discovered her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are looking into the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that travelers and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an latest statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" banning any further travelers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its arrival.

The vessel initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the elderly woman's death. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

The daughter of the victim said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the location after an scheduled tour without my mother".

In her statement, she described her mother as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a walking organization.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have performed that might have protected Mother's existence".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and mother became unwell on the hill climb," she revealed.

"She was asked her to go back, alone. Then the boat left, apparently without doing a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or soon after, mother passed away, without company."

Operator Response

In a statement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with authorities to support their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Practices

The vessel serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with forty-six crew, according to official information. It was purpose-built to enter isolated regions of the Australian shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - compact vessels used to transport passengers on land visits.

Events like this are infrequent, and passenger vessels have systems to track which passengers are boarding or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship just isn't an possibility," one expert stated.

Vessel operators regard these methods very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such occurrences from taking place," the authority added.

"This is probably a stunning - and unfortunate - isolated incident."
